Editorial policy

Last updated 25 October 2026

These are the standards we hold ourselves to. If we fall short, tell us.

Accuracy and sourcing

  • Before a story goes live, an editor checks names, titles, numbers and dates.
  • We credit the source of information, including other news organisations, agencies and official statements.
  • We distinguish clearly between confirmed facts, claims and allegations.

Independence

Our reporting is not for sale. Advertisers and sponsors have no say over what we publish. Sponsored content is labelled and kept separate from news.

Images and video

Photos carry a credit where we know the source. We do not present an image as showing an event it does not show. If a photo is a file or illustration, we say so.

Breaking news

When news is moving fast we may publish early and update. Breaking stories are updated as facts are confirmed, and significant changes are noted.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it quickly. Significant corrections are noted on the story with the date, so readers can see what changed. To report an error, use our contact page and name the story.

Privacy and sources

We protect confidential sources and treat private individuals fairly. We only publish personal information when there is a clear public interest.
