SENATE APPOINTS SPOKESPERSON, SETS UP STANDING COMMITTEES
The Nigerian Senate has established eight standing committees to effectively carry out its legislative duties, including the Chairman Senate Committee on Media, Senator Adaramodu Raphael representing Ekiti South.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio also announced at plenary on Tuesday, Senator Salisu Afolabi as Vice Chairman of its Committee on Media.
The standing Committee on Rules and Business is Chaired by
Senator, Titus Zam Tartenger with
the Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele as the Vice Chairman.
Senator Sunday karimi, representing Kogi West chairs the Committee on Senate Services and Senator, Williams Eteng Jonah as Vice Chairman.
The senate also established the Committee on Code of Conduct and Public Petitions, which is chaired by Labour Party member, Senator Okechukwu Ezea from Enugu North with
Senator Ibrahim Mustapha as Vice Chairman.
In line with constitutional provision, the Committee on Public Accounts goes to the opposition and it will be overseen by Social Democratic Party(SDP) lawmaker,
Sen.Aliyu WADADA with
Senator Onyeka Peter as Vice Chairman.
Also established is the Committee on Nat’l Security and Intelligence headed by
Senator Shehu Umar with
Senator, Asuquo Ekpeyong as his Vice.
The Committee on Legislative Compliance is chaired by
Senator Garba Musa and
Senator, Ede Dafionne as Vice Chairman.
Meanwhile, the Committee on Appropriation-considered as one of the most “juicy” committees is chaired by Senator, ADEOLA Olamilekan, a former Lagos Senator who now represents Ogun West.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee is Senator Ali NDUME who doubles as the Chief Whip of the Senate, leaving both positions in the hands of the majority All Progressives Congress.
